The New Era Bahá’í Choir was established in 1988 by Musical Director, Greg Parker. Initially it was supposed to be a one-off performance at an event celebrating Racial Harmony and commemorating the 25th anniversary of the “I have a dream” speech by Doctor Martin Luther King. Twenty years later the choir is still going strong.
The choir is based in Perth, Western Australia. Over the years they have performed at hundreds of events before thousands of people all over Australia.
It is a choir that embraces difference and includes people of various ages, ethnic and social backgrounds and even varying levels of vocal ability! What makes the choir work is that they share the common goal of using the performing arts, especially music, to reach out to the nobler sentiments in people. For members of the choir, performance is regarded as a sacred space as well as a creative one.
The New Era Singers combine spirituality, talent, creativity, enthusiasm and great music to give the audience a treat for the senses.
Membership of the choir is welcome to members of the public who support the Bahá’í ethos of harmony through spirituality and are willing to abide by the choir’s code of conduct.
I received only this morning the local paper ‘Post’ with the news of Greg Parker’s concert at St Hilda’s, Saturday March 22nd. Hopping on the web to purchase 2 x tickets for the event left me so very disappointed to find it sol out. We would very much like to attend as I am terminal myself and think what he is doing is both courageous and spiritual.
Please let me know if we can be squeezed in, or that there is any cancellation.
